Buying, delivery & returns
How purchases from Rare State are agreed, and the rights you have when you buy from us at a distance. Last updated: September 2026.
How buying from us works
There’s no checkout on this website. A purchase works like this:
- You tell us what you’re looking for, by WhatsApp, Telegram, email or telephone.
- We confirm what’s actually available and describe the item honestly, with photographs and condition notes.
- We agree the item, the price, the payment method and the delivery or collection arrangements with you, and confirm them in writing in the conversation.
- Only then does payment happen and the item change hands. Nothing is assumed, and you’re never committed by sending an enquiry.
Prices and VAT
Rare State is not VAT registered. The price we agree is the total price for the item — no VAT is added. If any delivery or other cost applies, we tell you about it before you commit, and it’s included in the written confirmation.
Your 14-day cancellation right (distance purchases)
Because our sales are agreed remotely — by message, email or phone, without meeting face to face — the Consumer Contracts Regulations 2013 give most consumer purchases a 14-day cancellation period:
- You may cancel your purchase for any reason within 14 days, starting the day after you receive the item (or the last item of your order).
- To cancel, simply tell us clearly — by email to sales@rarestate.co.uk, by phone on 07983 678345, or in your WhatsApp or Telegram conversation with us. You can use the model form below, but you don’t have to. Keep a copy of your message.
- You then have a further 14 days to send the item back to us at the return address we confirm when you cancel.
- We refund what you paid, including any standard delivery charge, within 14 days of receiving the item back or receiving proof you posted it — whichever comes first — using your original payment method unless we agree otherwise.
- Return postage is your responsibility unless we’ve agreed otherwise or the item is faulty. Please send with tracking and insurance appropriate to the item’s value.
- You may handle the item as needed to inspect it, but if its value is reduced by handling beyond that, we may deduct a fair amount from the refund.
Model cancellation form — complete and send it to us only if you wish to cancel:
“To RARE STATE LTD, Flat 2 Richards House, 12a Bishops Hall Road, Pilgrims Hatch, Brentwood, England, CM15 9NX. Email: sales@rarestate.co.uk.
I hereby give notice that I cancel my contract of sale of the following goods: [description of item],
Ordered on / received on: [date],
Name of consumer: [name], Address of consumer: [address],
Signature (only if sent on paper): [signature], Date: [date].”
Certain items are exempt from cancellation rights by law — for example goods clearly personalised to you. Where an exemption genuinely applies, we’ll tell you before you buy.
If something is faulty or not as described
Your statutory rights under the Consumer Rights Act 2015 apply to everything we sell, including second-hand and collectible items:
- Goods must be of satisfactory quality, fit for purpose and as described — taking account of their age and the condition we described and photographed.
- If an item is faulty or not as described, you have a short-term right to reject it within 30 days of delivery for a full refund.
- After 30 days, you can ask for a repair or replacement; if that isn’t possible or doesn’t resolve things, you may have a final right to reject or a price reduction.
These rights sit alongside — and are never replaced by — the cancellation right above. Contact us as soon as you spot a problem and we’ll sort it out.
Delivery
Delivery or collection arrangements are agreed per sale and confirmed in writing before payment — including the method, any cost, and the address. Unless we agree a specific arrangement with you, we’ll deliver without undue delay and in any event within 30 days. Items are packed appropriately for their value; risk passes to you on delivery.
Selling to us is different
Everything above concerns you buying from us. If you’re offering items for Rare State to buy, that’s a separate conversation: we review your photographs and details, and any offer and terms are agreed in writing before anything changes hands. The consumer cancellation rights described above don’t apply to items we purchase from you. Please never send items to us before arrangements are agreed — and note our registered office is not a shop, collection point or returns address.
Complaints
If something goes wrong, tell us: email sales@rarestate.co.uk or call 07983 678345. We’ll acknowledge your complaint, look into it and tell you the outcome. If you need independent advice about your consumer rights, contact the Citizens Advice consumer service on 0808 223 1133.
